History
About the School
In 2016, Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Malloch — CEO of The Roosevelt Group, former Research Professor at Yale University, and Senior Fellow in Management Practice at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford — together with Manish Maakan, CEO of Intellect Global Transaction Banking (iGTB), founded the world’s first and only executive-level learning programme dedicated to transaction banking.
The School was created to fill a critical gap: while transaction banking had become the economic engine of corporate and institutional banking, there was no senior-level forum where leaders could step back from day-to-day execution, examine strategy through first principles, and learn from global peers. The iGTB Oxford School of Transaction Banking was launched to change that.
Held annually at Rhodes House in Oxford — an architectural landmark of the early twentieth century and home to the Rhodes Scholarships — the programme brings together CEOs, CIOs, COOs, and Heads of Wholesale Banking from leading financial institutions across six continents. The programme concludes at the Oxford and Cambridge Club on Pall Mall in London, a Grade II listed building designed by Sir Robert Smirke.
The curriculum is built on a design-thinking, first-principles approach. Rather than cataloguing trends or sharing best practices, the School challenges leaders to revisit foundational assumptions about how wholesale banking creates value — and how institutions must be designed to compound advantage.
In 2025, the programme was renamed to the Intellect Oxford School of Wholesale Banking, reflecting its expanded scope across the full spectrum of wholesale banking: deposits and liquidity management, payments and collections, trade and supply chain finance, and transformation strategy.
Now entering its 12th edition, the School has welcomed over 400 CXOs and senior executives from more than 60 leading banks across five continents. Its alumni community of 300+ leaders represents some of the most influential financial institutions in the world.
The Intellectual Foundation
The central proposition of the Intellect Oxford School of Wholesale Banking 2026 is clear: In a fragmenting world, sustainable advantage no longer comes from scale, product breadth, or isolated transformation initiatives — it comes from the deliberate design of banking systems.
Growth is increasingly determined by how effectively liquidity, payments, trade, risk, and technology are architected as a coherent system of flows, rather than optimised as individual functions.
Oxford 2026 is designed to help leaders return to first principles, redesign these systems intentionally, and make sharper strategic choices in an environment where capital, trust and resilience matter more than scale.
Who This Programme Is For
The programme is designed for senior leaders responsible for shaping the future of wholesale and transaction banking, including:
- CEOs and executive committee members
- Heads of corporate, institutional, and transaction banking
- CIOs, CDOs, and technology leaders accountable for platform strategy
- COOs and transformation leaders responsible for execution and resilience
What Participants Take Away
By the end of the programme, participants will leave with:
- A system-level understanding of how their bank’s growth engines actually work and where value is leaking
- A framework to redesign liquidity, payments, trade, and sector strategies as a coherent economic system
- A decision lens to prioritise corridors, clients, and platforms under capital and risk constraints
- Clarity on which transformation initiatives to stop, not just which to start
- A practical architecture for compounding advantage in a fragmenting global economy
The Intellect Oxford School of Wholesale Banking is a by-invitation-only executive programme for senior leaders in wholesale and transaction banking.
Now in its 11th edition, the School has welcomed over 400 CXOs and senior executives from 60 leading banks across five continents. Held annually in Oxford, the immersive three-day programme brings together top decision-makers to explore strategy, transformation, and leadership in an evolving financial landscape.
Formerly known as the iGTB Oxford School of Transaction Banking, the programme was renamed in 2025 to reflect its expanded focus on the full spectrum of wholesale banking. It combines real-world case studies, strategic insights, and peer-level dialogue to help leaders drive growth, manage risk, and stay competitive.
More than an executive education programme, the Intellect Oxford School of Wholesale Banking is a trusted forum for collaboration, learning, and shaping the future of wholesale and transaction banking.
Programme Leadership
The programme is designed as an executive-level leadership forum that combines structured intellectual inquiry with practitioner-led insight. Participants engage with senior leaders from global and regional wholesale banks who bring direct experience in making strategic and execution decisions under constraint.
Faculty perspectives are complemented by peer dialogue and guided discussion, allowing participants to test assumptions, compare institutional choices, and examine how similar challenges have been addressed across different banking contexts. The emphasis is not on sharing best practices, but on sharpening judgement – helping leaders understand trade-offs, consequences, and design choices in complex wholesale banking systems.
